Closing day 5 of Holy Cross College's international Faculty Development Programme on chemistry education and research for a tech-driven future.

Honoured to have concluded Day 5 of the International Online Five-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) organised by the School of Physical Sciences, PG & Research Department of Chemistry, Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli.
Over five days, the PG & Research Department of Chemistry had built something special: a journey through "Chemistry Education and Research for a Tech-Driven Future: Pathways to Holistic Excellence." Photofunctional nanomaterials, quantum computing, quantum mechanics, and portable heavy-metal detection devices: each day peeled back a new layer of where chemistry is headed.
And on 31 July 2026, it was my turn to add a piece to that puzzle: "Leveraging AI for Innovation in Chemistry Education and Research."
We talked about how AI isn't replacing the chemist's curiosity; it's amplifying it. How a lab bench and a language model can now work side by side. How teaching chemistry in 2026 looks nothing like it did a decade ago, and why that's something to be excited about, not afraid of.
What stayed with me wasn't just the technical discussion; it was the energy. Faculty members who've spent years in classrooms, still leaning in, still asking "how do we bring this to our students?"
Grateful to Rev. (Sr.) Dr. Rajakumari P (Principal), Dr. L. Cathrine (Convener), and the entire organising team, Dr. J. Rosaline Vimala, Dr. R. Kanmani and Dr. M. Stella Bharathy, for building a space where five evenings turned into something far more valuable than a checkbox FDP.
Some sessions end when the call disconnects. This one, I have a feeling, is just getting started in the classrooms it reaches.
